What I Was Testing

The Results

Where Udio pulled ahead
Vocal naturalness. Udio's vocals were the more convincing — less of the subtle processed quality that betrays synthetic singing. On close listening, Suno's vocals had a slight sheen Udio's often didn't.
Structure and composition. When I wanted an actual song structure — intro, build, breakdown — Udio gave me more control and more musical ideas. It felt more like working with a compositional tool.
Where Suno pulled ahead
Getting a usable take quickly. Suno produced something I could work with on the first try more often. If you want a decent track in one shot, Suno's default quality is slightly more consistent.
Lyrics adherence. Suno stuck to the provided lyrics a bit more faithfully. Udio occasionally took creative liberties — sometimes good, sometimes not what I wanted.
The Artifacts

Generating lyrics from scratch. The auto-generated lyrics were the weakest part of the output — generic and thematically samey. Providing my own lyrics improved results substantially.
Expecting one generation to be final. Acceptance was lower than I hoped. The realistic workflow is generating several takes and selecting, not nailing it in one.
